Mangaluru, June 3, 2018: Members of various women’s organisations staged a protest here on June 2, Saturday against the Tulu movie "Appe Teacher" alleging that the movie had several scenes and dialogues which embarrass the women folk.
Addressing the protestors, Chanchala Tejomaya, President of the Mangaluru Taluk Mahila Mandalagala Okkoota said though the movie got big publicity, it had offended the teaching fraternity as well as women through use of cheap language. Some of the dialogues in the movie seem to be encouraging rapes. The movie should be banned, she said.
Merlyn Martis. President of Committee Against Atrocities on Women demanded a ban on the movie as well as those TV serials which mislead and misguide women.
Prior to the demonstration, women took out a protest march from Ambedkar Circle upto the DC office. A memorandum was also submitted to the Deputy Commissioner. Shashilekha B, President of Karavali Lekhakiyara mattu Vachakiyara Sangha, Shahanaz, M of Jamaate Islami Women’s Association, K A Rohini, Founder of Mahila Mandalagala Okkoota, Hilda Rayappan of Prajna Counselling Centre, Sumalatha N Suvarna, President of Billawa Mahila Sangha, Lokeshwari Vinayachandra, former president of Belthangady Mahila Okkoota and others were present.
