Woman, paramour get 5 yrs RI for driving husband to suicide

 Mangaluru, Dec 6, 2016: The First Additional District and Sessions Court has on Monday passed a judgement sentencing a woman and her paramour to five years of rigorous imprisonment   apart from imposing a fine of Rs 10,000 on the charges of driving the former’s husband to suicide.


jailThe convicts  are Roopa alias Roopavathi (34) of Kanyadi in Belthangady taluk and Dinesh Gowda (32) of Padmunja Kedila in Kaniyoor. Roopa’s husband Sadashiva Gowda (40) had committed suicide by consuming poison five years ago and the two were blamed for it.

The background : The deceased Sadashiva Gowda and the accused Dinesh Gowda were  friends and were running a hotel at Gadag on partnership basis. Sadashiva had married Roopa on August 22, 2005 and the couple stayed at Gadag and even had a  baby boy.

Meanwhile Dinesh who was Sadashiva’s partner befriended Roopa and the two even  developed illicit relationship. When Sadashiva came to know about this he warned the two but of no avail. They instead began to harass him.

Ultimately, a deeply  depressed Sadashiva who had returned home at Panjikallu in Bantwal had committed suicide  by consuming poison on March 15, 2011. He had also left behind a death note blaming his wife for his  suicide.

Even Sadashiva’s brother Srinivas in his police complaint had  alleged that Roopa and Dinesh were responsible for Sadashiva’s suicide.

The court while passing its judgement has said  that the convicts will have to undergo an additional six months imprisonment if they failed to pay the penalty. Of the total  penalty amount,  Rs 15000 has to be given to the mother of deceased Sadashiva, the court said and also directed to ensure  suitable rehabilitation to the minor son of Sadashiva.
