Mangaluru, Sep 30,2017 : Hindu Jagarana Vedike President Jagadish Karanth has been granted bail by a court in Puttur within hours of his arrest on September 29 at the Bengaluru airport. Karanth was arrested after the Puttur town Police filed a suo moto case against him on the charges of abusing Puttur Sub-Inspector of Police Khader in a speech.
No sooner Karanth was brought to Puttur, he was produced before the court, which granted him four days bail. He will now have to appear before the court on October 3 as per the court’s directive.
There was some tension in Puttur following Karanth’s arrest with some stone pelting incidents reported. Protest was also staged against the arrest. Karanth was accused of making the provocative speech at a Hindu meet at Puttur Kille Maidan on September 15.
