Mangalore, Mar 22: “We were sad to hear about the death of one of the greatest singers of the Konkani world,” said Dr M Veerappa Moily, the minister for law and justice, while delivering his heartfelt condolences during the public condolence meeting held in honor of late legendary Konkani singer Wilfy Rebimbus at Milagres Church on March 22, Monday.

The minister also said that one cannot use the word “late” in case of Wilfy Rebimbus because the legendary singer is still living in the hearts of innumerable fans, friends, and family members. His songs and videos will keep him alive for several generations to come, said the minister.

Referring to creativity as a circle, the minister said that the memory of Wilfy is like the circle of creativity, without beginning or end. He consoled Wilfy’s friends, fans, and family members by saying that Wilfy will remain forever as a fond memory, adding that Wilfy’s great qualities will always be a source of inspiration to him.

Speaking about the greatness of music and literature, Mr. Moily said that science is now able to cure diseases; but music and literature have been transforming human minds from times immemorial. Wilfy was a revolutionary in the field of Konkani music, said the minister, adding that Wilfy’s songs are powerful enough to transform society.

Lauding the unique creativity of Wilfy Rebimbus, the minister said that the singer followed a path of his own and left behind his footprints for other Konkani singers to follow.
A memorandum was later submitted to Deputy Mayor Rajendra Kumar requesting the renaming of the road leading to Koti Chennayya Circle from Valencia Circle as Wilfy Rebimbus Road.

Ivan D’Souza, the advocate and convener of the Union Committee, made the welcome speech. Fr. Denis Moras presided over the meeting. Oswald D’Cunha read out the condolence message.

MLA Amarnath Shetty, Mohammed Masood, James Mendonca, Basty Vaman Shenoy, MLA Gopal Bhandary, Sadananda Shetty, MLA Abhayachandra Jain, and many others were present for the public condolence meeting. They delivered their heartfelt condolences to Wilfy’s sorrowing family members, friends, and fans.
