The  facilities are : i. a well equipped mortuary ( Rs 20 lakh), ii. emergency ward ( Rs 15 lakh), iii.Sewage treatment plant (STP) ( Rs 1.2 crore), iv.  Modern X-ray unit ( Rs 47 lakh), v. Club Foot Care Centre built in association with Cure International India Trust were inaugurated at the hospital premises.

Speaking with joy to the gathering, Minister Ramanath Rai said  that, Health is wealth from the Gods,  health brings in all good things of life, Our  government hospitals in these times are providing top class services to needy people in our district, and many are unaware of the upgraded facilities now provided here. One can find many well-known doctors of India and abroad are from our district, which is a matter of pride.

We need  to put in hard work hard to retain the trust of people by improving our facilities, and we see this in action here. Yes, many facilities have been now set up and many more are to come.

Good organisations are also extending support to Wenlock in better the quality. Diseases like polio have been eliminated completely, and even malaria is controlled. As doctors become more specialised,  newer diseases are also coming up.  We will work together to keep the trust people have on government hospitals and work hand in hand with other organizations to provide better facilities.

Minister U T Khadar speaking to those present  said that People flock to Wenlock hospital with great faith and  trust and we must ensure that they walk out of the hospital cured and satisfied. Earlier, the mortuary here was only for the dead, there was no consideration for the grieved kin and visitors.

The upgraded mortuary is one of the best in the state, spacious with drinking water facilities, seating arrangement, restrooms and much more now.  Sounding a call on need to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the hospital, he added that the cleanlines in the hospital premises that I have seen today must be maintained on all days, the people here have done good work.

I now work to  provide facilities to the hospital not mere superficial looks. The hospital will be made better in due time.  He went on to say there are already eight dialysis machines and more will be installed soon. Dialysis centres are also set to come up in Kundapur, Udupi and Puttur. Also, in the coming days a 24x7 pharmacy will be opened in Wenlock hospital.

Corruption in the country is serious and the medical field is not exempt . People lack committment and care  in  their work. To tackle this and to better efficiency in healthcare,  motivation and orientation programmes will be organised for doctors and nurses.

District surgeon and Wenlock hospital superintendent Dr Rajeshwari Devi gave a fitting the keynote address, wherein she spoke about the various facilities now at Wenlock, its activities and achievements.

Dr Bharat Shetty of AJ Institute of Dental Sciences, representative of Cure International, and others were honoured on the occasion for their support in setting up the new facilities. Jayaram Poojary compered the event.

Key  offcials of Wenlock, Dr Eerappa S welcomed the gathering.  Dr. Julian Saldanha, who was in the forefront of matters proposed the vote of thanks.  The occasion was graced by many dignitaries and members of the general public and a bright future is forseen for this historic hospital of Mangalore.
