Kanakere is a residential area which has several open wells. Of these four well waters were found contaminated with petrol and have become combustible causing  worry among locals.

People of the area have informed the fire service department but say that the  personnel have not yet visited the place.

A petrol bunk is operating  in Belma gram panchayat and there is a  possiblity of petrol  seepage from there. A few years ago a  retention wall  of the petrol bunk had collapsed damaging  the petrol tank. This may be the reason behind the seepage, allege locals.
