Mangaluru, Jan 07, 2019: City’s Ramakrishna (RK) Mission Swacchata Abhiyan’s 5 th Shramadan was carried out in Padua area on January 6, 2019. Mohammad Nazeer, Commissioner, Manangalore City Corporation, launched the days efforts. Captain Gopinath Rao was the Chief Guest.
Speaking on the occasion Mohammad Nazeer stated “No policy of the government is effective without cooperation from the general public. If Mangalore has attracted the attention of the whole nation today regarding cleanliness, the main credit goes to the likes of Ramakrishna Mission’s Swacchata Abhiyan which is being carried out consistently with the support of the public. Because of this Abhiyan Mangalore got first place in India in solid waste management. Already Mangalore city corporation has joined hands with Ramakrishna Mission in garbage segregation and management from each and every household. We look forward to support this Abhiyan more actively in the coming days.” Mosa Shareef, Harshakumar Kedige, Srikar Prabhu, Bharathi Bhat, Mahesh K K and more than 200 volunteers were present on this occasion. Capt. Ganesh Karnik, Mentor of the Abhiyan welcomed all.
Shramadan: Volunteers were divided into 6 teams. Members of Nivedita Balaga cleaned the road dividers of Padua Highway. Another team under the guidance of Suresh Shetty removed heaps of plastic papers on both sides of the highway. Third team under Aniruddh Nayak removed overgrown grass; weeds on the road sides towards Nantoor circle. Fourth team under Punith Poojary removed heaps of plastic waste from the roadsides leading towards KPT. Dr Satish Rao; other senior volunteers removed the weeds, plastic waste and garbage in the surroundings of bus shelters. 2 bus shelters were thoroughly cleaned & repainted giving a facelift. 2 direction boards in the spot cleaned last Sunday were also repainted.
Removal of 10 tippers of garbage: Heaps of garbage, plastic papers, old beds, cloth and building debris were lying scattered on both sides of the Padua – KPT highway. Dilraj Alva, coordinator of the Abhiyan, Subhoday Alva, Ashok Subbaiah and other volunteers led the efforts in removing these heaps of garbage using 2 JCBs and 6 tippers. About 100 volunteers were involved in this task. 10 tipper loads of garbage were cleared from the area. As much more cleaning work is pending in the area it was decided to have one more shramadan in the coming days. A team of 20 members of Yuvashakti team under Yogish Kayarthadka from Kayarthadka village joined this Abhiyan.
P N Bhat, Kudroli Ganesh, Geetha Kurumbudelu, Chandrashekar Hankarjalu, Ramachandra Shetty, Saritha Shetty, Bhanumathi, Rajgopal Shetty, Akshith Shetty and many other volunteers worked for nearly 3 hours.
Swacch Udupi & DK : Ramakrishna Mission in association with D K and Udupi Zilla Panchayats carried out Shramadan in 40 villages. Ujire, Tannirupantha, Irvathur, Belalu, Aivarnadu, Bengamale, Padupanambur, Miyar, Ambalapady, Mudarangadi, Kotathattu, Shirur, Jadkal, Hardalli-Mandalli, Madamakki, Vandse, Belman, Kadthal, Kervashe, Bailur, Bola, Heroor, Nallur, Durga, Kukkandoor, Inna, Chara, Halady & many more village panchayats had undertaken shramadan. Sri Navin Konaje in D K Dist. & Sri Sudhir Adamale in Udupi Dist. coordinated these drives.
