Mangaluru, June 25, 2018: The 37 th week of Shramadan by Ramakrishna Mission Swachata Abhiyan was organized below Bikarnakatte flyover and surroundings, June 24. Jointly flagged off by Prof. K Raghothama Rao, Director, Manas Centre for Training, Bangalorean and NRI Vibha Prabhu in the presence of Swami Jitakamanandaji. Nalini Bhat, Ravishankar K K, Prof. Satheesh Bhat, Prashanth Yekkur, Ashok Subbaiah & several others were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Raghothama Rao said, “Movements like Swacch Mangaluru have not taken place in any of the cities including Bangalore consistently and with the zealous dedication of hundreds of volunteers. This movement should go on and each and every
volunteer who has participated in this should be proud.” Sharing her opinions, NRI Vibha Prabhu said, “I am participating in this abhiyan for the last 3 weeks after coming from US and I am motivated by the zeal and dedication of the volunteers. I had visited Mangalore 2 years ago and I can really see lot of difference between what I saw then and what I am seeing now. I can see the awareness about cleanliness in most of the people.”
Cleanliness: Cleanliness drive was carried out below flyover from Kaikamba – Kulashekar flyover. Volunteers under Dilraj Alva, Mukesh Alva and Mehboob Khan cleared the posters stuck on the walls of the pillars of the flyover and they were cleaned with water. A group of volunteers removed the dirt and garbage lying around. Another group cleaned the drains adjoining the highway leading towards Padeel. Using the grass cutting machine weeds were also removed from both sides of the road. Dilapidated temporary seats below the flyover were replaced with new seats thus benefiting the pedestrians and auto drivers. Sudhir Vamanjoor, Shreyas pandit with others cleaned the spot beautified
with flower pots on the previous occasion at Kulshekar – Shaktinagar junction. Souraj Mangalore, Chethana Gadiyar, Dhanush Shetty and others removed illegal flex banners & hoardings. Workshop on filth to wealth: A workshop on “Filth to wealth” was organized for Mangalore
Senior citizens. Smt. Nandini Raghuchandra participating as resource person demonstrated pot-compost and explained how the kitchen and household waste can be converted into compost etc. Swami Ekagamyanandaji explained the history of Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan and its significance. Ofice bearers of Senior Citizens forum, P G Shenoy, K Jairaj Rai, Ramesh Rao K, Peter Oswald Rodrigues, Nagesh K with Several others participated in the workshop. After the programme interested were given pots for composting.
Praveen Shetty, P N Bhat, Aniruddh Nayak, Shivaraj Vamanjoor, Sakshita M Suvarna, Kanakaraya and others participated in the Shramadan. Captain Ganesh Karnik, Mentor of the Abhiyan guided the volunteers. MRPL is sponsoring the drive.
