Udupi, feb 01, 2018: "Wear helmets to protect your own lives and not fearing the fine imposed by the cops for flouting the helmet rule."
This was the suggestion given by Udupi District Superintendent of Police Lakshman B Nimbaragi at a function organised to flag off a bike jatha - "Awareness on Wheels" to sensitize two-wheeler riders on February 1, Wednesday. The jatha was jointly organised by District Legal Services Authority, Police Department, Udupi Bar Association, Manipal Auto Club, and Legal Info Pages.
"Several two-wheeler dies due to head injuries in accidents. Wear helmets for your safety, not for our sake, he said.
If informed the Department will take action against anyone found selling sub-standard helmets, the SP added.
The jatha participated by police personnel, employees of various organisations as well as members of the general public, was flagged off by District Principal and Sessions Judge Venkatesh Naika T.
ASP Kumar Chandra, DySP S J Kumaraswamy, Bar Association President H Ratnaker Shetty and others were present.
