Udupi, March 17, 2016 : Chairing a meeting of the District Tourism Development Committee at the District Offices Complex, Udupi DC Dr. R. Vishal, that along with water sports festival, an entertainment programme would be held on the beach to attract people in early Aril. A sum of Rs. 3 lakh had been released for the events.

He directed the officials to identify the spots where taking “selfies”, which was a rage, could be dangerous at Malpe and St. Mary’s Island. Boards and posters should be installed in such places warning tourists against taking “selfies”.

A three-day training programme would be organised shortly for taxi drivers and interested persons, so that they could becomes tourist guides. Hoardings giving information of tourist spots would be installed at vital locations on district roads, State and national highways in the district.

To make it easy for the police to do constant rounds of tourist and pilgrim spots such as Malpe beach and Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple here, two motorcycles would be converted into “Udupi Tourist Cheetahs”. The two motorcycles would be provided by the District Tourism Development Committee.

A beach cleaning equipment would be purchased at a cost of Rs. 47 lakh. This would help in proper and full cleaning of the Malpe beach.

A tourist jetty had been constructed at a cost of Rs. 2.26 crore at Malpe a few months ago. The construction of a road to the jetty, a ticket counter and a passenger shelters at the jetty were in the final stages of construction. They would be inaugurated soon.

Pramod Madhwaraj, MLA, P. Nagaraj, Assistant Director of Tourism, D. Manjunathayya, Commissioner of Udupi City Municipal Council, Arun Kumar, Project Director of Nirmiti Kendra, and others were present.
