Mangaluru, March 14, 2019: Following the crackdown on illegal parking of vehicles announced by City Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil, police towing vehicle are seen to be patrolling the streets on the lookout for vehicles parked improperly.
The pick-up truck, which is equipped with various hydraulic devices to lift different types of impounded vehicles, has been briskly confiscating offending vehicles during the last two weeks. It is equipped with a loud speakers and the police officer first makes a warning announcement before getting down to business.
The city police commissionerate has sought tenders for four tow trucks. The impounded vehicles are dumped at Town Hall premises and the vehicle owners can release them after paying the prescribed fine. The penalty is as follows:
If you are missing your vehicle after parking it at a crowded place, it could most likely have been impounded by the police. In order to trace it you may call police hotline number 100 or the city police control room at 0824 2220800 and provide the details of your vehicle. You will be informed if it is in police custody and guided in reclaiming it.
It is learned that nearly 150 vehicles have been seized so far, out of which majority were motor bikes and scooters. Cops have been mainly targeting vehicles parked in no parking zones on busy streets and those obstructing traffic or posing danger to the public.
