Moodubelle, 09 November 2010: The day eagerly awaited by a group of seventeen parishioners to go on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land under the leadership of Fr. Joswey Fernandes, parish priest of Moodubelle dawned on Tuesday, 9 November 2010.  The pilgrims came to the church by 10 am where a special bus was arranged for them to be taken to the Mangalore airport on their way to Mumbai and thereon to the Holy Land.  Fr. Gilbert Pinto, Rector of the Minor Seminary, Chikmagalore joined the group at Moodubelle. Fr. Nelson D’Almeida, Professor in St. Joseph’s Seminary, Mangalore will be joining them at the Mangalore Airport.

At 10.15 am all the pilgrims and those who had come to see them off and wish them ‘bon yoyage’ assembled in the church where Fr. Paul Sequeira conducted the prayer service and Fr. Lancy Saldanha blessed the pilgrims. Thereafter Fr. Paul and Fr. Lancy offered flower bouquets to Fr. Joswey on behalf of the priests of the parish; Henry Fernandes-president of the Parish Pastoral Council also offered Fr. Joswey a flower bouquet on behalf of the parishioners. Mrs. Meera Lobo-secretary of the Parish Pastoral Council offered each of the pilgrims roses as a token of the good will of the parishioners and wished the pilgrims safe journey and successful pilgrimage. The group proceeded to the Mangalore Airport at 11 am.


The pilgrimage groups comprises of Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Fr. Nelson D’Almeida, Fr. Gilbert Pinto, Mrs. Carmine mendonca, Mrs. Theresa Nazareth, Mrs. Alice D’Souza, Mrs. Raina D’Souza, Mrs. Benedicta Rebello, Mrs. Celestine Martis, Mrs. Eliza Martis, Mrs. Rosy Aranha, Mrs. Benedicta Lobo, Mrs. Juliana Pinto, Mrs. Carmine Corda. Besides these individuals there are three couples: Robert D’Souza and  Monica D’Souza, Boniface Barboza and Eugene Barboza, Frederick D’Souza and Matilda D’Souza.


The pilgrims will proceed from Mangalore to Mumbai and from there to Kuwait and onward to Cairo in Egypt and thereafter to various holy places in Israel and Jordan and will return back to Moodubelle on 19 November 2010 which would cover ten total days of pilgrimage. This pilgrimage has been organized as part of the centenary celebrations of the foundation of the Belle parish dedicated to St. Lawrence.
