Mangaluru, Apr 29, 2016: A Wakf Officer who had sealed the office of the Ullal Darga in the backdrop of soaring differences over the election of the new President of Ullal Darga, was allegedly stoned by one faction which has opposed to the sealing of the office on April 28, Thursday evening.
It may be recalled here that former mandal pradhan Haji Abdul Rasheed was elected the new President of the Ullal Darga by the Committee recently by succumbing to pressure from the Jamaats.
It is learnt, though all members were intimated well in advance regarding Tuesday’s meeting, immediate Past President U S Hamza and the Khazi had abstained. After a futile wait till 12 noon, the present jamaat members pressurised the authorities to elect a new committee.
When General Secretary UT Ilyas contacted Hamza over phone he had reportedly suggested that those having majority support could be elected. Finally Haji Abdul Rasheed was unanimously elected as President and handed over charge. It was then told that he would serve as in-charge President.
Later the Khazi and few others who arrived in the evening, announced that Bukhari was elected for the post of president while nine others were elected to the Committee. When the Khazi was told about the election of the new President and that he had no right to interfere in the Darga administration, he did not agree to the same. When the situation was about to go out of control, police officials rushed to the spot and the matter was settled amicably.
However, on Thursday evening, there was a verbal clash between rival groups with one group members even shouting slogans against Health Minister Khader. Finally, Wakf Board Officer Aboobakker locked out the Darga office in police presence. It was at this moment that agitated supporters of Rasheed stoned the officer who however was sent from the spot with police protection.
