Voting: Wedding invite used to create awareness

Udupi, Apr 10, 2019(DHNS): A wedding invite creating awareness on exercising franchise has turned the attention of many in Udupi.

The wedding is arranged to be held at the Sri Shesha Krishna Convention Hall at Tallur – Parthikatte on May 1.

 

Normally, it is the guests who present gifts to the brides and grooms at a wedding. Here, however, it is the family members who have decided to present books worth Rs 250 to their guests at the marriage.

The only condition for the guests to the wedding is that they should show the indelible ink mark on their fingers as proof of the fact that they have indeed exercised their franchise and have been a part of the democratic process.

Unique manner

The bride and groom – Poornima, daughter of Leelavathi and late Narayana, and Ganesh Kumar Padukone, son of Srinivas couple – have, therefore, designed the wedding invitation card in a unique manner.

Using the Kundapur Kannada dialect to take home the message with a tagline – Onduchuru Ikkani – the invite creates awareness on the need to exercise franchise and take part in the democratic process. The invite says, “By exercising franchise, help democracy win. We are not for sale and our vote is not for sale, thus highlight on ethical voting.
”
In addition, the marriage ceremony will have a book exhibition cum sale, exhibition of cartoons by K G Hebbar and the expo of folk artefacts by Srinivas Soorgoli, teacher at Government Higher Primary School, Soorgoli.

Multiple messages

The invitation is aimed not only at driving home the message on the importance of voting but also promoting reading habits among the younger generations.

The bride and groom have joined hands with the district administration and SVEEP Committee in creating awareness on exercising franchise and the effort is well appreciated by all.
