Vote bank politics over Tipu jayanti, says MP Shobha

Mangalore Today News Network

Udupi, Oct 16, 2017: Udupi-Chikkamagalur MP Shobha Karandlaje on October 15, Sunday said that the state government is conducting Tipu jayanti with the intention to garner votes.   Shobha said that Tipu jayanti need not be celebrated to only maintain peace and harmony. "With just five months left before the Assembly elections, the Congress party is playing vote bank politics to attract minorities which is not right," she said.

MP Shobha 16 oShobha alleged that Popular Front of India (PFI) has been trying to provoke youths in coastal areas to join the Islamic (IS) outfit. The law and order situation in the state has failed and the government is misusing the Anti Corruption Bureau and the police department, she alleged.

Continuing her tirade, Shobha said that the DySP Ganapathi case was closed without a proper probe. "Minister George and Meti were given clean chits. The organisations conducting the probe have turned into organisations that give clean chits to Congress leaders," she said.

"By waiving farm loans up to Rs 50,000 in cooperative banks, the government has tried to fool farmers. The input subsidy released by the Centre for the crop loss has not reached farmers," she said.

"The government has been claiming that pro-AHINDA (Alpasankhyataru, Hindulidavaru Mattu Dalitaru) has illegally deposited Rs 1,000 crore earmarked for the benefit of backward community students in the banks. The interest is being misused. Is minister Anjaneya not aware of it," she questioned.

The MP said that the heavy downpour in Bengaluru has left most roads riddled with potholes. ""Eight innocent lives have been lost in the past one week. What happened to the Rs 4.5 thousand crore that was earmarked for urban development? In an effort to divert the flood issue, the government has released the sketches of the murderers in journalist Gauri Lankesh’s case. Their motive is not to trap the accused," she said.

Commenting on the government’s plan to distribute gold biscuits to legislators to commemorate the diamond jubilee of Vidhana Soudha, Shobha said, let the government give it from the Congress party funds and not from people’s money. BJP legislators should reject it, she said.
