Mangalore, Nov 27: The Vishwamangala Gou Grama Yatra concluded with a Rathyayatra and a mass worship of cows at Urva Market grounds in Mangalore on Nov 27, Friday.

M B Puranik, Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader,who spoke on the occasion, while stating that cattle trafficking was on the rise, demanded legal protection to the cows. He further said illegal trafficking of cows can be prevented only when people of all religions respect each other’s traditions, culture and religious sentiments.Highlighting the benefits of cattle to the mankind, he demanded that cow be honoured as the national animal.

Prof K M Kaveriappa, Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University, participated as the chief guest and said that the Indians hardly realize the worth of their own culture. However, when the West recognizes it, they accept it as worthy,he said adding the status of cows might change when the urine of cow is purified and patented by Western countries.
Sadhvi Matanandamayi, in her benedictory speech, said that cows were worshipped and honored during the time of the Mahabharatha. The Pandavas would worship the cow before taking their meals. The cow has the power of consuming poison and providing sacred milk, she said.

 



Shri Rajashekarananda Swamiji of Gurupur Vajradehi Mutt presided over the function.

The chief guests of the function were B Raghunath Somayaji, entrepreneur Rohan Monteiro and  Honorary president of Vishwa Mangala Gou Grama Yatra, Mangalore and District Convenor of the Yatra Vinay L Shetty.
