Viral video, false news of church attack on WhatsApp : Cops file suo moto case

Mangaluru, May 18, 2018: The Police Department which has taken serious cognizance of some  videos pertaining to the church attack cases of the past, circulated widely on WhatsApp claiming that they took place recently,  has filed a suo moto case in this regard.

Speaking to reporters at his office here on May 18, Friday,  City Police Commissioner Vipul Kumar said such   messages are intended to disrupt peace in the  society. He also assured a thorough probe and stern action against the guilty.

There has been no attack on any church after the elections. This is just false news. Those forwarding such false news without scrutiny will also face action. Those forwarding messages through WhatsApp and other sites must be cautious, he added.

He further stated that a Social Media Monitor Cell has been set up in the Commissionerate to  keep an eye on social media posts.

Eight arrested in Adyarpadavu incident:  The Commissioner informed that eight persons have been arrested in connection with the stoning and assault case reported from Adyarpadavu during the victory procession. Those arrested are Harish Poojary, Nishanth, Nitesh, Abhishek, Davood alias Davood Hakeem, Mohammad Naushad, Shahul Hameed and Muhammad Junaid. All of them have been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody, he said.

New WhatsApp Number for traffic related woes:  The City Police Commissionerate has now a new WhatsApp Number  (9480802303) for the public to complain about traffic problems or give any suggestion or  solution. Public can use this  number  to redress their grievances,  the Commissioner said.
