Violence in Meepuguri – bikes burnt ; houses stoned

Kasargod, Oct 14, 2011: Two bikes were set on fire and three houses were attacked late in the night of Oct 13 Thursday at Meepuguri on the outskirts of Kasargod, during which five people were injured.


A student was allegedly threatened by a group in Meepuguri on Thursday evening, and the minor issue was later blown out of proportion, leading to several acts of violence. 


Ibrahim (68) and his sons Shabir (20) and Sameer (34) were injured when stones were pelted on them. The police have arrested many people in connection with the incident. 


Chandra (20) and Mohammed Kunhi (50), an auto rickshaw driver, were also assaulted. Kunhi’s auto rickshaw was damaged in the process.

An auto rickshaw belonging to Shreekanth and houses belonging to Suresh and Shekar were also attacked and damaged. 


A group of people, arriving on several motorbikes, threatened Naveen Kumar (30) and set his bike on fire. A bike belonging to Dinakar, parked in front of his house, was also set on fire. Mohammed Sameer was assaulted and stones were pelted on his house. 


Cases have been registered against 30 people.
