Mangalore, Feb 14: Valentines Day was a quiet affair in Mangalore. Owing to the fact that Shri Rama Sene (SRS) activists were taken into preventive custody and the police personnel were carefully protecting lovers’ favorite haunts throughout the day, lovers in Mangalore could celebrate the day in peace at malls, pubs, ice cream parlors, multiplexes, and others venues. More than 90 mobile police squads moved around in Mangalore, effectively maintaining law and order and winning the appreciation of the citizens.

The police arrested some SRS members at Kottara, who were moving around with the intention of disrupting Valentines Day celebrations. Police also disrupted an attempt to hold a protest against Valentines Day celebrations in front of Bharat Mall.

Additional Superintendent of Police Mr Ramesh said that no untoward incidents were reported in the city. Since 50 SRS activists were in preventive custody, nobody could disturb the lovers who were celebrating Valentines Day. Mr. Ramesh said that nobody could guide the SRS activists because their chiefs Arun Puthila, Prasad Attavar, and Kumar Malemar were all in preventive police custody.
