Mangaluru, Dec 23, 2017: It has been reliably gathered that there are plans to stop the practice of playing devotional songs and slokas on loudspeaker at the famous Shree Manjunatheshwara Temple at Kadri following a directive from the Endowment Department. However, the move has come in for sharp criticism from some Hindu outfits, particularly in social media.
It has been learnt that a local resident named Blany D’Souza had complained to the Mayor and Assistant Commissioner of Religious and Endowment Department against the use of loudspeaker at the shrine. The complainant had alleged that the use of loudspeaker was inconveniencing nearby residents and had also appealed that the songs be played in a lower volume such that it is only heard in the temple precincts.
Though the complaint was lodged six months ago, the Mujrai Department has now reportedly instructed the Temple Executive Officer to initiate suitable action. However, this has infuriated Hindu outfits as was evident with the anguish expressed in social sites. A few have strongly opposed the move and have also demanded that there was a need to put a brake to use of loudspeakers in places of worships of other faiths too.
