Unexpected results bring joy to Alvas College, Moodabidri

Mangalore, May 8: A sense of celebration prevails at the Alva’s College in Moodabidri and they have not one, but two reasons, to feel so! Two of its students have secured the highest marks in the State in the second PUC examinations.

Science student Rashmi V Patil and Royston Pinto from the Commerce stream have scored a grand total of 588 each, making it a 98 per cent. Incidentally, both the students were adopted by the institution under its ‘Students Adoption Programme’.

Rashmi has scored a 100 in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, and Royston in English and Statistics, said Alva’s Education Trust Chairman Mohan Alva. ‘I want to be a doctor’

Rashmi, who gives her parents and the college management the credit for her achievement, said she dreams of becoming a doctor in future.

Rashmi’s father Veerendra is an ex-serviceman and her mother Suvarna is a house wife. She hails from Killa at Hunagunda in Bagalkot.

Pleasant surprise

Royston gushed that he never expected to score such an amazing marks. “I did not believe my eyes. I first told my mother and as the news spread, my neighbours rushed to congratulate me,” he said.

He wants to become a chartered accountant and also have a MBA degree.  Royston’s father Raymond Pinto is working abroad. His mother Helen Pinto is a house wife. He hails from Borkakatte in Karkala.

Overwhelmed

Vinutha Rao from Poorna Prajna College in Udupi, who secured the second rank from the Science stream in the State, was overwhelmed with her stupendous achievement. She has scored 587.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Vinutha said working right from day one has yielded such good results. “I had some expectations, but did not expect such great results,” she added.

Vinutha is planning to take up Instrumental Engineering in Manipal Institute of Technology. However, she has few hopes in CET as she found the Mathematics paper tough.

Vinutha said she owed her success to the support extended by her parents and lecturers. She also added that additional coaching from Mahesh Tutorials helped her realise her dream.
