Udupi, Jan 29, 2015 : A youth hailing from Achlady has been admitted to the Manipal Hospital with grievous head injuries inflicted on him by a gang of seven which reportedly abducted him and assaulted him. It is suspected that the main accused is a former business partner of the victim with whom he had opened a medical store a few years ago.
The victim has been identified as Rajesh Shetty (25), son of Narasimha Shetty, while the prime accused is Basrur Sudhir Shetty.
According to sources, a gang of seven including Shetty which arrived at Rajesh’s house in a Maruti Omni van (KA 20 D 2043) abducted him and enroute began to assault him in the van. It is learnt, Rajesh’s family members were away when the incident took place. Sources said the assailants had also telephoned Rajesh’s friends stating they would kill Rajesh if their demand for Rs 50,000 was not met.
It has been gathered that Sudhir since long has been claiming that he had incurred Rs 50,000 losses in the business under the partnership of Rajesh and was even pestering Rajesh to return it ever since they ended their business partnership.
Rajesh was abducted over the same reason, it is believed. It is said one of Rajesh’s friends even arranged for the cash demanded by the assailants. However by then Rajesh was critically injured and the assailants sensing danger dumped him as also his motor bike which they had took along, near Hunsemakki.
Later Rajesh was admitted to a Kundapur Hospital and later shifted to Manipal Hospital.
Kota police are investigating the case based on a complaint. A search is on for the assailants.
