st marrys islandUdupi, Jan 31, 2016: A young software engineer from Pondicherry  met a watery grave when a huge wave washed him away while he was sitting on a rock at the St  Mary’s Island on January 30, Saturday.

The engineer has been identified as Vivekananda Narayana Swami (26) who worked for Wipro in  Bengaluru.

Vivekananda along with four friends who had arrived  to Udupi to attend the wedding of a friend, had been to the island later in the day. He and his friend  Manikantan   were sitting  on a rock when a huge  wave hit the rock. Though both were washed away Manikantan who knew swimming swam ashore while Vivekananda was reportedly drowned. Search is on for his body.

A case has been registered  by Malpe Police.
