Members of the CPI(M) staged a protest against the act and said that the livelihood of the street vendors had to be protected.

Sources say that the CMC had issued a notification in papers a fortnight ago and had specified the zones for street vendors. They say that street vendors could not sell products by the side of roads as several buses, pedestrians and other vehicles passed by.

The CMC has reportedly identified vending zones in areas like, Kalsank-Ambagilu, Christian High School Road, Mission Compound Road, Bannanje to Brahmagiri and Daina Restaurant to Govinda Kalyana Mantapa.

Further, sources in the CMC have said that the vendors need not shift immediately and could do so within a week. However, the vendors are not ready to shift as they fear smissing on business due to lesser movement of vehicles and people. A CPI(M) leader said that there was no point is asking vendors to shift to areas where they were no customers frequent.
