Udupi, Nov 08, 2015: Members of the Udupi district unit of the Mahila Congress took out a procession and staged a dharna in front of the Clock Tower Nov 7, over increase in the prices of pulses.  Speaking at the protest, Gopal Bhandary, former MLA, said that due to the economic policies of the Narendra Modi government, in the last 15 months, the price of pulses had seen a steep hike.

The price of toor dal (red gram) had increased from Rs. 80 per kg to Rs. 210, moong dal (green gram) from Rs. 80 per kg to Rs. 150, urad dal (black gram) from Rs. 90 per kg to Rs. 150, onion from Rs. 15 per kg to Rs. 45, chana dal (black gram split) from Rs. 45 per kg to Rs. 80, cumin seeds from Rs. 150 to Rs. 250, and dry chilly from Rs. 130 to Rs. 250.

PM  Modi had promised “Achhe Din” (good days) during the 2014 Parliamentary election campaign and to reduce prices of all essential commodities.  But the reverse had happened and women were finding it difficult to manage their home budget and to cook for their families.  PM Modi had promised to bring black money from foreign countries and to credit Rs. 15 lakh in every person’s account. But so far that money had not got credited to anybody’s account. PM Modi launched the Jan Dhan Yojana, but money had not been credited to most of the accounts.

Bharatiya Janata Party MPs were making reckless statements intended to polarise the society. But no attempt had been made to control them.
