Udupi, May 10, 2015:  At a meeting convened to discuss water crisis, at Taluk Panchayat Hall, MLA Pramod Madhwaraj has directed Panchayat Development Officers to supply water through tankers, where water shortage is seen and to provide temporary electricity connections to borewells to pending connections.


MLA directs temporary power for water supplyHe said that the multi-village drinking water supply project for Tenkanidiyur and Chantaru have been sanctioned and a total of Rs 78 crore has been released.

A survey is set to be carried out from May 11, today, the MLA said and asked the people to provide information on areas facing water shortage. Information on open wells and borewells needs to be given to help in the supply of water when the river goes dry.


At the last meeting it was agreed to provide electricity connections, pipelines and to dig borewells for water supply before April 30, the order has not been followed, Pramod Madhwaraj said.


The MLA expressed his disappointment that the banner of the MLA task force on water supplying tankers was not displayed. He took to task, PDOs of Ambalapadi, Karje and Handadi panchayats.  There is no need of permission to dig borewell in government land,  only it should be ensured that there no other borewell within the distance of 50 meters.

Assistant Executive Engineer Sathish said that 25 works have been appointed, the Rs 40 lakh, sanctioned by the MLA task force is utilised.
