Udupi, July 14, 2015 : A leopard which was spotted in the cattle shed of a house at Janata Colony at Hiriadka was later trapped by forest officials in an operation that lasted over three houses. The leopard was later sent to Pilikula Nisargadhama in Mangaluru.
Rangappa Naik, a resident of the Janata Colony had the shock of his lifetime when he had opened the door of the cattle shed outside his house to switch on the water pump. Naik who saw a leopard inside, immediately closed the door of the shed and informed the forest officials who later managed to trap the big cat with the help of locals.
Uday Kumar, Hiriadka Range Forest Officer has said that this was the first instance of spotting a leopard in this area.
