Udupi, May 26, 2015: In a news that sent flutter at the Railway station at Indrali here on May 26, Tuesday morning, a woman from Kumta gave birth to a baby in the toilet  of the railway station.

The woman named Vijaya (35), wife of Raju  hailing from Kumta in Uttara Kannada district had travelled by train to Udupi to meet her uncle who is hospitalised. After alighting from the train she had been to the public lavatory at the railway station when she suddenly developed labour pains and gave birth to a baby.


Some people at the railway station who heard the woman’s cries learnt that something has gone wrong and  immediately informed social worker  Vishal Shetty  who rushed to the railway station. Later, with  the help of railway station officials  the woman and her newborn were shifted to the hospital in   an ambulance.

 The woman is presently under treatment at the Government Maternity and Children’s Hospital in the town. The condition of the mother and the newborn is said to be fine.
