Responding to a query, Ms. Kanagavalli said that as the money was being paid directly through the system, it was not being routed through gram panchayats. Steps were being taken to provide the incentive to the beneficiaries who had already constructed toilets, she said.

Savita S. Kotian, president of the zilla panchayat, directed officials of the Animal Husbandry Department to make plans for every gram panchayat to check stray dogs in rural areas.

She directed the Executive Officers of the three taluk panchayats to prepare a list of houses without power, with the help of Panchayat Development Officers and submit it to the Mangalore Electricity Supply Company. .

Arun Kumar Padur, chairman of the zilla panchayat standing committee on agriculture and industry, said that the Udupi Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer should collect information of the taxes paid by Udupi Power Company Ltd., which ran a 1,200 MW coal-based thermal plant in Yellur. The details of taxes collected from 2006 from the company should be collected, he said.

Ms. Kangavalli directed the officials to prepare action plans of housing and drinking water schemes. Diwakar Shetty, Deputy Director of Public Instruction, said that the department had started taking steps to get good results for SSLC examinations.

Anthony Maria Immanuel, Joint Director of Agriculture, said that though there had been lesser than normal rainfall so far in the district, it was better when compared to the rainfall last year. There was adequate stock of fertilizer and pesticides, he said.

Ms. Kotian said that there was lot of confusion among people in the gram panchayats with regard to ration cards. An official of the Food and Civil Supplies Department said that new applications can be submitted to those whose ration cards had been cancelled in 2014.
