Accordingly in our state the Post Offices of Mysore and Thumkur districts have already started their centers for issuing these I.D. cards. Similar center has been started now in Udupi Head Post Office on Tuesday 19th July 2011. This process of issuing the cards will continue for the next 3 years continuously.

Udupi district Deputy Commissioner Dr. T. M. Reju initiated this process by issuing the receipt to the Lions Governor Jayakara Shetty Indrali who was first to register. On this occasion Udupi Head Post Office Head Post Master Rajashekar Bhat briefed the information on this I.D. card. He said that, though it is not made mandatory so far, in the coming days for any purpose this card can be used as the proof of the address, identification and any such details instead of any other documents.

Along with the persons photograph, in this card there will be other details such as finger prints of 10 hand fingers, eye retina records, address, telephone number and email address. So in the future this Identification Card will play a significant role, said Rajashekar Bhat.  So possessing this card will be very important to the citizens, he said.

Under this scheme the cards will be issued free of charge and anyone above 5 years of age can obtain this card. In the Head Post Office the document such as Voter I.D. or Ration card should be taken and name can be registered, the photographs will be taken on the spot. The “Aadhaar” Identification Card will be received in 45 days through the speed post and will be delivered home to the individuals.
