Udupi, August 5, 2018: Eighteen year old Deekshith from Govind Nagar, Pitrody near Katapady who succumbed to fever nearly 15 days back, is learnt to have contracted a rare disease called Neuro Melloldosis. It has been gathered that he was suffering from high fever following the recent heavy rains and floods. Though he was hospitalised, the bacteria had affected his brain and he had succumbed at the KMC Hospital at Manipal on July 21.
He was the only son of Jaya N Kunder and Prathima couple. Deekshith who had scored 95 percent marks in PUC had also secured a seat at Manipal Institute of Technology. Just when his poor family had big dreams for their son, fate had something different in store for them.
Melloldosis is a rare disease contracted through a bacteria which is found in wet soil. Initially there would be symptoms of pneumonia.
Doctors from KMC, officials from the Health Department and Dr Akhilesh from National Centre for Disease Control have collected mud and water samples from the vicinity of the residence of Deekshith.
