Udupi, April 20, 2020: Police have registered cases against as many as 11 persons for arranging a marriage function at Duglipadavu in Alevoor in violation of the lockdown rules on April 19, Sunday.
The marriage of Hassan and Ramlath was scheduled to take place at 11.30 and many relatives had gathered at the groom’s house. On receiving information regarding this, a team of officials led by Udupi Tahsildar rushed to the place when some of those who had gathered there escaped from the scene.
The Tahsildar in his complaint said those who had gathered for the wedding neither were wearing masks nor were following social distancing and had also not secured permission.
The bride’s family was from Borigudde in Mangaluru and had entered Udupi district without any permission. Cases have been booked against 11 men under IPC 188, 270 and 149.
The accused are Saleem, Nabisa, Hassan, Ramlath, Abdul Suhail of Kunjibettu, Azharuddin of Duglipadavu, Mohammed Ashraf of Badagabettu, Shahid, Bakash, Mohammed Sharief and Mohammed Iqbal.
The authorities later allowed the marriage function in the presence of close relatives.
