UPCL extension only after looking into green issues’

Udupi, Sep 2,2015 : Speaking to media, Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake said before taking a decision on the extension of coal-based UPCL thermal plant, the bearing capacity of the area should be tested.

Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake The minister said that it was essential to look into the environmental aspects before taking a decision on the extension of the power plant. The project has already created environmental problems, it is essential to study the tolerance of the region.

Sorake said that he would hold talks with energy minister and recommend gas-based power project which was environmentally feasible.

He said fly ash and other byproducts of the coal-based power project had proved to be disasterous for fishermen and people residing in the area. The health of the people in the area has been affected.

The public has clearly stated that the fly ash from the plants harm their health and how can it be proved wrong? The ministers talk in the favor, when they fill their pockets.
