Mangaluru, 05 May 2015: Karnataka State Election Commission (SEC) has announced the calendar of events for holding elections to as many as 5,844 grama panchayats all over the state in two phases on May 29 and June 02, 2015.
Elections would be held in two phases to 5,844 GPs out of the total 6073 panchayats in the State. However, elections would not be held to 229 GPs whose term expires after August or notification pending for up gradation.
On May 29 is polling date for Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts and counting would take place on June 5, 2015.
The model code of conduct for the grama panchayat polls will come into effect from May 10 and the model code of conduct would be applicable only to areas coming under the jurisdictions of grama, taluk and zilla panchayats. It would not be applicable to town panchayats, town municipal councils, city municipal councils and city corporations.
Compulsory voting and 50 reservations for women are two important aspects of this election.
