Mangaluru, Nov 19, 2020: Two persons have lost money to the tune of Rs 1.53 lakhs in two separate cases reported from Mangalore and Mulki after fraudsters tricked and made them believe that they were bank people.
In the first case reported from Mangalore, a person from Pandeshwar received a call on November 7 from an anonymous caller who introduced himself to be an officer of the SBI Credit Card Department. The fraudster managed to get the credit card details and OTP after stating the card had to be reactivated. Within seconds the person lost Rs 80,000 from his bank account. In another similar case reported from Mulki, the fraudster introduced himself as from Bank of Baroda and stated that the Vijaya Bank debit card will be transferred to Bank of Baroda. He collected the card details and then siphoned off Rs 73,182 in phases.
Complaints have been lodged in cyber police station.
