Twin districts to experience heavy rainfall - Met department

Mangalore, June 9, 2011: The rains continued to lash against the twin districts yesterday, and the water level rose in tanks, ponds, wells, and other water bodies across Dakshina Kannda and Udupi.

Needless to say, the rural roads are already full of potholes, threatening the lives of pedestrians as well as motorists. Disruption of electricity and telephone services is quite common. Fortunately, there haven’t been any reports of loss to life or property after the monsoons set in.

Met says that the twin districts can expect as much as 75mm of rainfall during the next two days along with winds with velocity of 45kms to 55kms over the Arabian Sea for the next 24 hours. Fishermen have already been warned to avoid fishing activities during the next three days as the waves can rise to a height of anywhere between 2.5m and 6.5m during these days.

 

 

 

The DCs of both the districts have warned fishermen that the seas can turn very wild and have instructed the taluk office, police departments, ports, and fisheries department to inform the people residing by the coastline to stay alert during these days. People residing by the river should also be careful because there might be flooding. The people have been instructed to contact the control room in case of any emergencies.

Simultaneously, the people of the twin districts are worried about the challenges posed by half-constructed roads, mud piled up by the roadsides, dug up roadsides, and so on.
