Mangaluru, May 02, 2016: ’Rosario masscommunity wedding’ is jointly spearheaded by St Vincent De Paul Society (SVP), a worldwide service organization of Catholic laypeople and the Rosario Cathedral.  This was the 42nd annual community celebration of weddings, traditionally at Rosario Cathedral here on Sunday May 1.

Twenty six couples from different places of Mangaluru diocese as well as outside participated.  Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, the bishop of Mangaluru presided over the rituals. The nuptial Eucharistic Mass, with the bishop as the main celebrant began at 10 am. The bishop in his homily said, "Marriages are made by God. The community weddings in Rosario has traditionally supported couples to have the sacrament of matrimony in a manner that is unique. today you vow to take care of your spouse in good times and in difficulties no matter waht, only death can end this bond that you have made today." The Bishop called upon the couples to love each other no matter what, as ordered by God and remain faithful to each other as long as they live.

Several diocesan clergy including Vicar General Mgr. Denis Moras Prabhu, Rev J B Crasta, Rev Francis D’Souza,  Rev Rocky Fernandes, Rev Vincent D’Souza, Rev Paul Melwyn D’Souza capuchin and Rev Paul Sebastian D’Souza participated in the Eucharist.

A beautiful community reception followed, Dr Edward Nazareth was the chief guest. Dr Nazareth in his address said, "It is note worthy that hundreds of couples have through this community wedlock in the past four decades have started their families well. Simple marriages are the need of modern times without waste and ugly lavishness. Marriage, is a ’three rings’ affair - bearing, sharing and caring. Only if good mind set comes over will successful marriages last a life time. "  C J Simon and Mary J Pinto, president and secretary of SVP respectively, welcomed the guests of the couples and thanked  all concerned after the lunch served to all.

All the donors for the occasion were honoured with flowers as token of appreciation. Jude Coelho, vice-president of SVP central council, members of the SVP from Rosario Cathedral as well as from other parishes were present among others. The sentiment that remained predominant was one of celebrations and joys.
