Mangaluru, April 1, 2016 : Services buses are off the roads on April 1, Friday after a private bus conductor reportedly opposed an increase in toll fares at the toll gate near the NIT-K Suratkal. It may be recalled here toll charges have been revised with efect from today.
It is said the conductor of the bus operating on the Mangaluru-Udupi route opposed the hike in fare resulting in a quarrel between the toll gate staff and the conductor. Soon it resulted in a full-blown clash between the two and as a protest the bus crew decided to resort to a protest by halting bus service. They accused the toll staff of behaving in a high-handed manner.
Though even the express buses decided to participate in the strike, ultimately only service buses went off roads and city and express buses plied as usual to avoid inconvenience to the public and students.
The issue is expected to be settled soon and talks are underway at Suratkal police station under the leadership of SI Cheluvaraju.
