Tuluva Siri organized to promote Tulu language and culture

Udupi, May 2, 2012 : Siri Tuluva Chavadi Odipu organized Tuluva Siri at Ravindra Kala Mantap in MGM College. Delivering the inaugural address on this occasion, MLA Raghupathi Bhat, who was the chief guest of he event, said that events such as Tuluva Siri play an important role in keeping the local Tulu language free from external influences.

Urging that only Tulu in its pristine purity must be spoken at the event, he said that a number of similar events have been held to promote Tulu language, food, culture, and rituals.

Shehnaj M., the chief editor of Anupama, a monthly magazine, was also the chief guest of the event. In her address, she spoke of the importance of loving one’s mother tongue.

Kumari Charitra Hegde lit a lamp in front of the tulasi plant, garlanded it, and watered it as a way of inaugurating the event.

Umanath Kotian, the president of the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, presided over the event. Ramesh Kalmadi, the member of the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy; Manjula Shetty, the member of the Karnataka Tulu Sahithya Academy; Kiran Kumar, the president of the Udupi City Municipality; and Y. N. Shetty were among the dignitaries on the dais.
