Tulu Grama – Down below the memory lane

Belthangady, Dec 12: The centre of attraction of the World Tulu Conference is the typical Tulu village called as ”Tulu Grama” which is recreated as an replica of a rural real-life, spread over more than 8 acres of land at Ajjerakallu, has evoked a great deal of interest. Ajjerakallu is recreated by veteran artists Jagadish Ammunje and Jeevanram Sullia. ‘Model Tulu Grama’, showcase ancient rich Tulu culture and heritage. "Tulu Grama” also consist of a “nyaya basadi” (village court), a hut of the Nalke community people who perform “bhootaskola” (divine spirits), “patlera el” (house of the village chief), “sener el” (house of the village accountant), “panditera el” (house of the village doctor, who practices ayurveda), house of the village blacksmith, a grocery shop and the like. The traditional wedding of a Gowda family can be witnessed in the model village in a the temple.

”Tulu Grama” also include a village school, temple, “garadi” (wrestling school), beaten-rice maker, jaggery-making unit also sells the fresh juice from sugarcane crushed in the buffalo-driven “gana” (mill) at the grama, a carpenter’s house, and the “guttina mane” (traditional manor house). This ‘‘Tulu Grama” has recreated a typical village life in a very unique manner.

Atil Aragane (The Food Festival) is undoubtedly one of the most mesmerizing places for the food lovers to spend their time in the Tulu Conference venue for this place has been offering as many as 79 verities of Tulu delicacies.

Different verities of traditional Tulu food items belonging to the undivided Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts are being offered in the stalls to bring back the memory of Tulu food culture.
