Mangaluru, Dec 20, 2015: There is an urgent need to promote Tulu language literature and culture , while retaining the originality of Tulu, said Dr. D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Academy Award presentation ceremony for achievers in various fields, organised by the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy at the Siri Chavadi of Tulu Bhavan at Urvastores on December 19, Saturday.
Continuing, Dr Heggade said Tulu theatrical field gained more popularity, thanks to comedies. He also stated that it was a matter of pride for Tuluvas to note that many Tulu cinemas were running for over 100 days.
The Honorary Awards of Tulu Academy for the year 2014 were presented to Dr Kanarady Vadiraj Bhat (Literature), M.K. Seetaram Kulal (Theatre) and Ram Shetty (Cinema). Sharada A Anchan was awarded the prize in the poetry section.
The function was presided over by M Janaki Brahmavar, President of the Academy. Dr B.A. Viveka Rai, former vice chancellor of Karnataka State Open University delivered the introductory remarks. Asha Timmappa Gowda, Zilla Panchayat President and Ivan D’Souza, MLC were the chief guests. Academy Members K.T. Vishwanath, Roopakala Alva, Mohan Koppala, Raghu Idkidu, Jayasheela, Registrar Chandrahas Rai B and others were present.
