Tragedy during Ganesha procession : Drummer run over by truck carrying idol

Karkala: September 19, 2015: In a tragic incident, an 18 year old youth, a drummer with the Nasik band, lost his life when he accidentally came under the wheels of a truck carrying the Ganesha idol during a procession at Mudrady on September 18, Friday.

The mishap occurred after the truck developed some technical problem. The deceased youth is Abhijth Jain (18). He hailed from Padumarnadu in Moodbidri.

It is said the truck all of a sudden moved at great speed in a slope resulting in the tragedy. Some of the band members sustained injuries in the mishap.

The idol which was worshipped at Mudrady School premises was later taken in another vehicle.

It is being said that the Ganesha Idol had a small crack when brought for worship. Though such idols are not worshipped, here the organisers of the event did some patch work and continued with the rituals. Some believe that this was the reason for the mishap.
