Traffic chaos critical in city, immediate steps demanded

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Dec 24, 2019:  A wide cross section of concerned citizens have expressed serious displeasure on the traffic chaos and poor driving culture that has emerged recently in the city of Mangaluru. Parking is very scarce in Mangaluru is a well known, but that should not spur  dangerous traffic and road culture among educated people here. But, that is exactly what we see constantly. Not only in parking but the entire gamut of driving and road etiquette is thrown to the four winds. With no regulation/controls on production and sale of cars, and easy bank loans, the car population has become excessive and is responsible for the damage of the environment to a very large extent. If this continues our roads will not be able to support the cars as we are already seeing.

It is fearful and sad to note that simple pedestrians, children, aged, poor not only have no space to walk, but their lives are in danger at all times out doors. The frequency and nature of accidents that the ordinary pedestrians on our city roads encounters is enough to convince even the most skeptical critic.

It is time controls are introduced on the car population.  And it must be realized that driving a car is not at all  to be valued more than walking;  using public transport and avoiding ’one-person-in-one-car’  culture is the way human well being and the environment can be saved rapidly - it should be a mission for all, has been a serious appeal from many to all citizens
