Udupi, Sep 20 2018: The Udupi district administration’s efforts to harness the tourism potential of the district seems to succeed.
The start of a boat cruise named ‘Tirumala Cruise,’ which has come up at a cost of Rs 1 crore. It has five palatial bedrooms with huge hall and kitchen. The venture is inspired by the Kerala model of boat houses.
The owner of one the boat houses, Krishna Kunder, told media that the house boat was situated at the delta point at Kodibengre and will travel around 14 kilometers to and fro depending on the choice of visitors.
The cruise comprises deluxe rooms. It is 129-foot deep and 20-foot wide. The party hall can accommodate nearly 120 people. With seven staff, including the helmsman and life guards, the cruise is said to be the biggest in coastal Karnataka.
The delicacies offered in the boat house include both vegetarian and non-vegetarian, however liquor is banned.
The cruise will travel all over the delta point, where rivers Swarna, Seetha and
Kunder says business should go on for at least five days a week to be profitable. Passenger safety being the priority, Kunder said, nearly 100 life jackets are made available.
The boat timings are 10 to 4 pm, 5 pm to 9.30 pm and overnight stay. The price varies accordingly. The minimum number of passengers entertained is five. The day cruise costs Rs 11,500, while the evening ride is priced at Rs 12,500. The fee for overnight stay is Rs 22,000. The cruise will anchor on the border of the sea at night.
He said there is also pick up from Udupi, Hoode and Santhekatte if informed in advance. Proper arrangements are made to dispose of garbage collected.
