Toll collection suspended at Hejamady after locals stage protest

Udupi, Feb 10, 2017: Toll collection which had begun at the  toll plaza set up by the Navayuga Infrastructure at Hejamady,  at midnight on Thursday  had to be  suspended  early  morning on  Friday after locals gathered in large numbers  and staged a rasta roko.

 

The effort s made by the officials of the NHAI and police personnel proved futile and the toll collection  had to be suspended. The protestors were led by Kaup Urban Development Authority Chairman B Deviprasad Shetty,  local GP Chiefs Prakash Shetty, Deepak Yermal, ZP Member Shashikanth Padubidri and others.

Local Tahsildar Mahesh Chandra has been in constant touch with the protestors and is trying to strike a negotiation. He said a decision would be taken after holding meeting with the Deputy Commissioner.

Meanwhile, security has been stepped up in the area to avert any untoward incident .The agitators have warned of a huge protest on Monday if their demand was not fulfilled.
