He told medi  on Nov 7,  Wednesday, that the government does not have the ‘strength’ to observe Tipu Jayanthi in public. “Instead, Tipu Jayanti is being organised within the four walls of a building. It is a tragedy that Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy is following the tradition of his predecessor in observing Tipu Jayanti.”

Hegde said, “Tipu had only expanded his territory and did not contribute anything for the welfare of the state or country. He had attacked over 8,000 temples and 1,000 churches, improsned many people from the territory.”

He urged the government to withdraw its decision to observe Tipu Jayanti.

Hegde said that the State government had released a list of reservation for the posts of president and vice president in Urban local bodies before the ULB polls. After the announcement of the results, the government has now released a new reservation list for the posts of president and vice president to come to power in 40 ULBs.

The court, staying the move of the State government, had directed it to conduct the election for the aforementioned posts as per the previous reservation lists.

However, the district administration has not taken a final decision on the same. As a result, the development works in ULBs have come to a standstill, he said.

Hegde urged the district administration to announce the dates for the election to the posts of president and vice presidents in ULBs.

The victory of B Y Raghavendra in the Shimoga Lok Sabha constituency by-election has proved that Byndoor (which is a part of the constituency) is a BJP bastion. The BJP will win at least 20 to 25 seats in the Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka, he added.
