Mangalore/Udupi, September 30: The Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district administrations have made elaborate arrangements to maintain law and order in the twin district ahead of the verdict of the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on the Ayodhya title suit, being delivered on Thursday, September 30 at 3.30pm. As a precautionary measure, the government has ordered the closure of schools and colleges for two days (on Friday and Saturday) and has sounded high alert across the state.

Tight securitySpeaking to Mangaloretoday,  Seemanth Kumar Singh , Mangalore City Police Commissioner , said that a total of 100 police vehicles have been kept ready to deal with emergencies. The department might take the help of the western range police if required. 1500 KSRPs, DR officials, Home Guards, and police officers have been deployed in many sensitive areas to maintain law and order in the region. Armed police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel have been mobilized in the sensitive areas. There is high security in markets, shopping malls, schools, at bus stands and railway stations.


All cinemas in Dakshina Kannada have been told to stop screenings after 12 p.m. on Thursday.


At Kulai, near Surathkal, a convoy led by City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh was accorded a warm welcome by people of both Hindu and Muslim community on Wednesday, September 29. Both the communities here joined hands to host high tea for police personnel. Earlier, the convoy also travelled to Ullal.


At Puttur, the route march was led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Amit Singh and in Belthangady, Sullia and Bantwal taluks the marches were led by the jurisdictional circle inspectors.

Security arrangements in Udupi District
Udupi Superintendent of Police Pravin Pawar said that nearly 800 security personnel, including 250 Home Guards and 60 Patrol vehicles with videographing facilities  have been arranged through out the district. 


Picketing points have been established in 247 sensitive areas of the district. Two emergency combat units, comprising 30 personnel each, were on standby to deal with any exigency. As many as 17 police check-posts had also been set up in the district. Sectoral magistrates would be functioning from every police station, he said

The state government has instructed deputy commissioners and superintendents of police to take steps to maintain law and order in the next few days. The government has issued an order to all the district collectors not to give any permission for public programmes in order to prevent any untoward activities in the state. Protests, demonstrations, processions and victory marches have been banned after the verdict.


All the schools and colleges functioning in the state are inactive now. Selling liquors have been banned across the state. Filling of petrol and diesel in tins and cans from petroleum outlets has been banned.


Police, Home Guards, Karnataka State Reserve Police, District Armed Reserve and City Armed Reserve personnel have been deployed in sensitive areas.
