Belthangady, Aug 16, 2012 : The mortal remains of Belthangady-based Indian army officer Krishnappa Gowda (30), who died in the cross firing between Pakistani and Indian soldiers at the Indo - Pak border in Firozepur Zone, was brought to Ujire on Wednesday. Thousands of local people paid their last respects to the deceased soldier.

Krishnappa Gowda is the eldest son of Channa Gowda and Monamma of Nada in Belthangady.

Krishnappa Gowda was on duty near the border on the night of Sunday when he was killed by Pakistani soldiers. His body was brought to Mangalore Airport, after which it was taken to Ujire through Moodubidri.

Hundreds and thousands of people from Guruvayanakere, Belthangady, and Venoor paid their final respects to the deceased soldier. His mortal remains were received at Ujire and taken in a procession through Ujire town to the Car Street of Ujire Temple. People offered flowers and paid rich tributes to the deceased soldier.

His mortal remains were then taken to his native place Nada, after which the final rites were conducted with due state honors.
