Mangalore, May 06: Farmer Gregory Patrao has expressed his agony over the forceful demolition of his family property by the officials and ‘hooligans’. He was speaking in a press meet held here in the city on May 7.

The political turn to the episode was also exposed; where the DC has allegedly given the explanation that the property was destroyed because Mr Patrao had filed nominations for the Gram Panchayat elections; and the authorities feared his win would pose a threat for them later.

He also boldly stated the atrocities and corruption among government officials, who earlier used to seek his help financially and also took vegetables and fruits from his farm frequently! “Others who bribed the government officials, still stay in the neighborhood. I have not given them what they sought and that is why only my land is being acquired”, he added.

When asked where the family is staying presently, he replied that they were staying in a tent on that very land because an alternative land arrangement was also not done by the officials.

We had requested for a deadline till June 15 to vacate, he said. Another matter of surprise is that the order copy of the court has still not been received by the authorities in hard copy; and is yet to be dispatched.

On what grounds did the ‘force’ come to demolish the house, questioned Mr Natesh, a well known social activist, who accompanied Mr Patrao.

An emotional Patrao appreciated the support of the media and requested them to continue doing the same.

Activist Ms Vidya Dinakar aand Natesh Ullal were also present on the dais.
