Mangalore, March 18: Great Bombay Circus, one of the most popular of Indian circus companies, launched its shows on the Karavali Exhibition Ground on March 18, Friday.

A majestic elephant hitting sixers with a cricket bat held in its trunk, a  Kenyan performer squeezing himself under a flaming rod positioned barely  10 inches above the ground,  a cyclist, whose feats include the high-wheel cycling skipping act and the pocket cycle act, in which he balances two people on his shoulders while riding a toy cycle, a  lady in popular basketball act, the pole of the basketball hoop is balanced on her feet , the  American limping board act,bird act , clowns and animals.etc etc… all in in the two three-hour programme .

 

 

The circus will present 3 shows at 1:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. daily. Mayor Praveen inaugurated the shows by lighting the lamp. The highlights of the circus show include acrobatic performances by Nawaz and Munis, a cricket match played by elephants, and a fire dance by five Kenyan youth.

Events such as foot juggling, human pyramid, rope skipping pole, and others formed part of the inaugural show. Shows by puppies, parrots, and camels added to the event. The most exciting part of the show was an artiste, who swallowed a sharp sword and then pulled it out. Performances by clowns formed an attractive part of this 2-and-a-half-hour show. The tickets cost Rs. 40, Rs. 70, Rs. 100, and Rs. 150.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The mobile zoo has 64 animals, consisting of elephants, horses, camels and rare birds such as the scarlet macaw, blue and yellow Macaw, Moluccan cockatoos, African lory, African grey parrot and pigeons.”

The circus has a staff of over 300 people, including performers from Africa, Russia, China, and Japan. Besides, there are 64 animals and birds. The highlights of this circus is an elephant who is widely known for his cricket talents, the Chinese roller act, cube pyramid juggling, Russian palotna acrobatics, Chinese candle balancing, American limping board, Russian Spider Ring Act, Russian Devil Clown Act, African Tembo, and many more.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Highlights of the programme

Chinese Roller Act: Seethu (China) balances on a wooden plank which is placed on five cylindrical rollers, one on top of the forming a vertical pyramid.

Cube Pyramid Juggling: The pyramid juggling act is a remarkable performance by the Russian artistes. This act is performed by Nagmath, is a lively acting which requires good co-ordination, control and speed.

Russian Palotna Acrobatics: Two long pieces of cloth resembling the traditional saree are hung from the ceiling. The artiste performs acrobatics by hanging on this cloth. The artistes perform some intricate acrobatic postures.

Chinese candle balance: Sakhi, Lakshmi performs this remarkablr feat of balancing fifty-one lighted candles holding it in her mouth, hands and soles of her feet.

 

 

American Limping Board: This item has been adapted from an American Circus. One can find a display of good acrobatic skills by a dynamic group of boys. The boys perform remarkable somersault acts on the limping board.

Russian Spider Ring Act: The Spider Ring Act is a display of excellent co-ordination, acrobatic precision by three dynamics boys.

Vertical Swinging Acrobat: In this item they do some graceful acrobatics in midair hanging on a ribbon cloth. Maneesh Balances on the cute and slim Mandira and rises to a great height.

Russian Devil Clown Act: Mustafa performs the Devil Clown Act with Bijaya. In this act the appearance and costume of the clown needs special mention.

High Wheel Cycle Skipping Act and Pocket Cycle: The High Wheel Skipping Act performed by Subhash, our star performer is a rare feat in Indian Circus. The Pocket cycle act needs special mention as the cycle is hardly six inches and could easily pass off as a mere toy.

Russian Clown Skipping Act: Mustafa the clown initially walks on a rope. Then he wears a mask and again walks on the rope with perfect balance.
